Welcome to Episode 22 of The Ski Instructor Podcast sponsored by Kästle Skis. https://www.kaestle.com/en/
In May I had the chance to go and meet Tom Waddington at his B&B Una Lodge in Le Châble, near Verbier. I've known Tom for a long time but it was lovely to have the time to sit down with him and chat all things skiing.
We covered a wide range of topics including what we can learn from the best ski racers, Gap years, rugby/skiing parallels, sportsmen and women as learners and loads more.
I really enjoyed this interview podcast and I hope you do too. You can find Tom at;

Monday May 18, 2020
Welcome to episode 21 of The Ski Instructor Podcast. This will be the episode that takes us over 25,000 downloads of this podcast and I thank everyone that is taking the time to listen to these.
In this episode, I chat to former BASI trainer Andi McCann who was also my examiner for the Level 3 technical exam a long time ago. I got a lot out of that exam and some of the things that Andi talked about on that exam have stayed with me ever since and indeed we talk about a couple of them in this episode.
In this episode we also talked about Ron LeMasters' amazing book Ultimate Skiing, which you can find here;
if you don't have a copy you should, it's probably the best book on ski technique there is.
We also chat about Andi's skiing background, boots, ski poles and the ski caddie.
If you want to get in touch with Andi, you can reach him at andi@mccannix.com

Welcome to episode 20 of The Ski Instructor Podcast.
Firstly, I can't believe we are on episode 20 and over 24,000 downloads of the podcast and counting. I want to thank you all for listening to my conversations, thank the guests for their time and knowledge and to thank all of you for listening and getting in touch.
This podcast is with Ed Drake, former Great Britain downhill skier, Olympian and the host of the ever excellent Ski Racing Podcast. I've been wanting to get hold of Ed for a while and it's not been easy because he's an extremely busy guy but I'm so glad that I did.
Ed is sponsored by Atomic. I've checked out their Redster boot and it looks really cool;

We had an extensive chat about his career, what he is up to now, falling off a cliff post ski career, coaching and being coached. There's even some Eurotest chat in there.
You can find Ed via instagram or twitter @eddrake
I hope you enjoy listening to this episode.

19 - Danny Miller M. Ost, Msc - The Fear Avoidance Model
Sunday Apr 12, 2020
Sunday Apr 12, 2020
Welcome to episode 19 of The Ski Instructor Podcast. This episode is a bit of a departure from normal in that I'm not interviewing a skier. However, there is lots of ski related chat in the pod and lots of content that relates to and is applicable to skiing.
My conversation this week is with Danny Miller who is a qualified Osteopath and who is halfway through a doctorate in Health Psychology.
This episode flowed out of a late night conversation that I had with Danny after a very enjoyable round of golf in Portugal. We discussed the concept of The Fear Avoidance Model and how knowledge of this could benefit the young skiers that we work with.
We were due to roll out this as a presentation to groups of young sportsmen and women in various International Schools in our region but corona put paid to that so we decided to make a podcast out of it.
What follows is a long conversation about various topics but the main one being how better we can manage injury when it happens to us through a better mindset.

Episode 18 of The Ski Instructor Podcast features none other than Joe Beer. I count Joe as a good friend, mentor and all round good guy. We've skied together not enough in my opinion but every time I do, it's always a mind bending experience.
We talked at length on many topics, skiing, teaching, Andorra, music, telemark and more.
I hope that you enjoy listening to this conversation as much as I enjoyed having it.

Welcome to episode 17 of The Ski Instructor Podcast.
These are strange times and if you are as sick to death as I am about Corona news of one type or another, I bring you my latest interview with Malcolm Erskine of the British Ski Academy.
We talk at length about the set up of the academy and how it functions before moving onto some discussion about when specific instruction turns into coaching and a couple of other tangents.
I hope you enjoy the podcast and because everyone has suddenly become free, I expect to be able to interview a few more people in fairly short order so watch this space.

16 - Dr Jim Taylor, US Ski Team and World Cup psychologist

Friday Feb 28, 2020
Hello
Welcome to episode 16 from a snowy (finally) alps. It's been a very weird winter here, lots of early snow and then nothing for the whole of January, followed by a wet and windy February. Compounding that is Coronavirus cancellations all over the place in March.
As a welcome diversion, I had a lovely conversation with Dr Jim Taylor who joined me via skype on a stormy night in my office. There were some connection problems on the line so you might notice some echo on my voice and some cut off answers from Dr Jim.
We had a chat including visualisation and things instructors can do to help clients from a psychological perspective, amongst other things.
You can find Dr Jim at https://www.drjimtaylor.com/4.0/dr-jim-taylor/aboutdrjimtaylor/
I hope you enjoy this episode.
Cheers

Welcome to episode 15 of the The Ski Instructor Podcast from a cold and dry Switzerland.
This week I am podcast host and also super fan as I try to contain my excitement when interviewing Taco from the Piste Off Podcast who also happens to be u14s coach at Sun Valley. I've been listening to Piste Off for years and it's my favourite podcast.
I've been looking forward to doing this podcast for a long time and it didn't disappoint. It's even improved my own skiing in the last few days.
We chat about the World Cup, Manny Feller, 3 magic points of ski racing, recreational vs racing turns and much more. It's another long one so strap yourselves in.
If you want to get in touch with Taco, you can find him at;

14 - Simon Butler, SBSki
Saturday Dec 21, 2019
Saturday Dec 21, 2019
This week I travelled to Megeve to speak to Simon Butler.
Simon has just won a very significant court battle with the French state over the right for ski instructors at all levels to work in France. This series of court cases stemmed from Simon's arrest on the slopes of Megeve in 2013. He also went to court with the British Association of Snowsports Instructors in 2017 which we discuss in part 2.
In this episode I wanted Simon to have a chance to tell his side of the story and get it on the record completely, without any spin or soundbites that we see in other media and social networks. I present this to you, the listener, with as minimal comment or opinion from me as I was able to do.
Below I link to Simon's business SB Ski as well as the link to the contact details of Jean-Yves Lapeyrere as mentioned. You can contact Jean-Yves if you wish you follow the declaration process irrespective of if Brexit applies to you or not.
Thank you for listening this year and I wish you a merry Christmas and a prosperous 2020, as well as lots of powder and bluebird days in the ski season.
