Hello
Welcome to episode 16 from a snowy (finally) alps. It's been a very weird winter here, lots of early snow and then nothing for the whole of January, followed by a wet and windy February. Compounding that is Coronavirus cancellations all over the place in March.
As a welcome diversion, I had a lovely conversation with Dr Jim Taylor who joined me via skype on a stormy night in my office. There were some connection problems on the line so you might notice some echo on my voice and some cut off answers from Dr Jim.
We had a chat including visualisation and things instructors can do to help clients from a psychological perspective, amongst other things.
You can find Dr Jim at https://www.drjimtaylor.com/4.0/dr-jim-taylor/aboutdrjimtaylor/
I hope you enjoy this episode.
Cheers

Welcome to episode 15 of the The Ski Instructor Podcast from a cold and dry Switzerland.
This week I am podcast host and also super fan as I try to contain my excitement when interviewing Taco from the Piste Off Podcast who also happens to be u14s coach at Sun Valley. I've been listening to Piste Off for years and it's my favourite podcast.
I've been looking forward to doing this podcast for a long time and it didn't disappoint. It's even improved my own skiing in the last few days.
We chat about the World Cup, Manny Feller, 3 magic points of ski racing, recreational vs racing turns and much more. It's another long one so strap yourselves in.
If you want to get in touch with Taco, you can find him at;

This week I travelled to Megeve to speak to Simon Butler.
Simon has just won a very significant court battle with the French state over the right for ski instructors at all levels to work in France. This series of court cases stemmed from Simon's arrest on the slopes of Megeve in 2013. He also went to court with the British Association of Snowsports Instructors in 2017 which we discuss in part 2.
In this episode I wanted Simon to have a chance to tell his side of the story and get it on the record completely, without any spin or soundbites that we see in other media and social networks. I present this to you, the listener, with as minimal comment or opinion from me as I was able to do.
Below I link to Simon's business SB Ski as well as the link to the contact details of Jean-Yves Lapeyrere as mentioned. You can contact Jean-Yves if you wish you follow the declaration process irrespective of if Brexit applies to you or not.
Thank you for listening this year and I wish you a merry Christmas and a prosperous 2020, as well as lots of powder and bluebird days in the ski season.

Welcome to episode 11 from the very snowy Swiss Alps. You might have heard that there has been some very serious snowfall already in the southern alps with resorts like Saas Fee, Cervinia and Zermatt getting absolutely hosed in the last week.
It's snowy here also in the Western end of the alps and the temperatures are cold. Hopefully this means a good and early start to the season.
This week I have a short interview with Jon Ballou, the Boss of The Aspen Ski School. That's the title I hear in my head anyway but actually, his full title is Managing Director, Ski and Snowboard Schools, Aspen Skiing Company. You can find out more about what that all means when you listen to the episode.
We talk about managing such a large operation, teaching trends and a bit of tech. No podcast with Jon would be complete without a bit of chat about the movie Aspen Extreme too.
You can find Jon on facebook as Jonathan Ballou or on his youtube channel of the same name.

I hope you had a good summer.
This week, I travelled to Verbier to meet someone I have been wanting to meet for a long time, Julian Griffiths of ES.
We spoke at great length over coffee and in his office about his history in skiing, Brexit and the history of British and French ski relations in Europe.
I had a great time making this one and I think there is scope for a follow up because we didn't touch on half of what I wanted to talk about.

This week for episode 7 I had the pleasure of chatting with Tom Gellie. Spoiler - the sound quality is not amazing on this one as it was done over Skype. It gets better though - stick with it.
Tom has represented Australia with APSI at two Interskis, once on Telemark and once on Alpine.
In addition he runs his business, Functional Body, out of Sydney dealing with helping people get out of pain and specialising in perfecting body movement.
We covered lots of topics in our conversation including Tom's personal skiing journey, how the body works, ski equipment including a terrible business idea for someone out there and how having kids impacts your skiing.
If you need to get in touch with Tom you can get him at the following places;

web - www.functionalbody.com.au

I hope you all had a great winter. It's not all over for some of us though and this week, I chat to Scott Pleva from Inside Out Skiing.
Scott works year round in an indoor Snowdome in Hemel Hempstead in the UK. He also takes his indoor client base on overseas trips to Europe.
We had a really good chat about teaching skiing indoors vs outdoors and went in depth about rules and regulations for teaching skiing in Europe. We finished off with some big buy skiing chat.
It was awesome to catch up with Scott again, he really is one of the good guys in our industry and I can't wait to get him out here again skiing with us.
You can find Scott though his website at www.insideoutskiing.com
